Covered in AA SL and AA HL, deductive proof introduces students to the nature and structure of mathematical reasoning. Students construct simple proofs, both numerical and algebraic, working from a left-hand side to right-hand side format using correct notation for equality and identity. At AA HL the scope broadens to include proof by equivalence, proof by exhaustion, disproof by counterexample, and proof by contrapositive, with students expected to communicate their reasoning with full logical rigour.
