Exclusive to AA HL, this content extends the functions material covered at SL into more sophisticated territory. Students investigate even and odd functions, work with the graphs of y = |f(x)| and y = f(|x|), and solve modulus equations and inequalities both analytically and graphically. Rational functions of more complex forms — including those with quadratic denominators and oblique asymptotes — are analysed and sketched, and partial fractions are introduced as a decomposition technique with direct applications to integration later in the course.
