Common to all four courses at SL, the binomial distribution is introduced as a model for the number of successes in a fixed number of independent Bernoulli trials. Students identify situations where the binomial model is appropriate, calculate probabilities using technology, and work with the mean and variance of the distribution. The link to counting principles and expected value is noted, and the use of technology to find binomial probabilities is expected in examinations across all courses.
