About LaTeX editing (The IB Math Teacher)

First and foremost

For those working on the LaTeX front, please adhere to our style guide πŸ’ˆLaTeX style guide

In order to save lots of time, we recommend the use of the app Mathpix, as it is a very fast and precise way to convert handwritten work to LaTeX: Mathpix: document conversion done right.Mathpix: document conversion done right.

Also, be aware that all files are edited and published (uploaded) to Overleaf (you may use texstudio on your computer for example, but the end file should be uploaded there)

About the file structure

In case the folder for the specific question is not created yet, you may do so, by duplicating one of the PILLS (e.g. PILLS-07) and changing its number, and also the files inside of course. There should be:

  • One (title)-PILLS-XX.tex file
  • One (title)-PILLS-XX-answers.tex file
  • One (title)-PILLS-XX-solutions.tex file
  • One PILLS-XX.tex file
  • One PILLS-XX-ANS.tex file
  • One PILLS-XX-DESCRIPTION.tex file
  • One PILLS-XX-SOL.tex file

More about the commands

Whenever you see these writings such as "AA HL”, "Paper 1” and "Topic: Calculus”, these refer to the type of question being created. In this case, it is a Calculus question for the AA HL course in a Paper 1 (the students cannot use a calculator to solve). All of these standards are known by the student, so it is important that we communicate that with them.

All this (on the image to the left) translates to the code to the right:

You may find these codes on the file subjects-topics-subtopics-names.tex inside the common-tex-files folder.

You'll also notice the total number of marks, and the mark per subquestion/item (in case of course there are subquestions/items).
